Missed with the hole saw
In the process of putting drywall on OSB and despite a hole-in-one, I missed the electrical box by about 2 cm. It feels bad to discard the drywall, so what do you do? Can you fill it out with something like plaster once the board is in place?
It should work since it was only 2 cm, otherwise you can cut out a larger piece where the hole is correctly placed and just putty the joints around the inserted piece. The new piece should be large enough so that you can screw on all sides around the hole for it to sit firmly. I believe that gipsbruk works in this case and it is cheap to buy.
I have repaired significantly larger damage than 2cm with plaster. As long as there is something behind to stop the plaster (in your case OSB), it shouldn't be a problem. It's usually easy to fill in between the sheet and the box once everything is in place.
Good solution but assumes it hasn't been cut to length. If it has, it probably needs to be beveled on the cut edge, otherwise it may be difficult to succeed with the spackling at the joint.raveper said:
You don't splice on the length, you just buy the right length of drywall directly, right?
Oh, how I wish you could buy plasterboards in the right length!Drömhus2012 said:
Imagine how much less you would need to fill then...
I would probably also say like raveper, turn around and do it right... It can become troublesome if it becomes weaker around the outlet later when it needs to be rewired if the socket isn't sitting "right"...
Sometimes the lengths of the plasterboard work, and no cutting is needed. Pre-cut is available but then becomes expensive. If you do the plastering yourself, you can solve it with filler plasterboard or fix a piece that you can glue on. You do not need to turn or discard the board.
Thanks for all the tips!
The cost doesn't matter. It's the job of renting a trailer, arranging for help to carry it, going to the hardware store, and dragging the board up three flights of stairs without an elevator in a narrow stairwell that's the problem.smurfen72 said:
