I'm planning the fireplace for my new house and have spoken with the chimney sweep who suggests building a firewall 1dm from the existing wall to create a ventilated space behind the fireplace.

So now I'm wondering what materials I can use to build with, besides brick or leca.
Is there any approved material that is thinner than the narrowest leca, which is 9cm?

If you don't 'have to' use brick, both gypsum and minerite work.
However, gypsum tends to become porous from the heat, so minerite is probably preferable.

It's safest to consult with the chimney sweep beforehand, but it would be strange if he opposed any of the above options.
