Rebuilding a classic 70s staircase and plan to replace the railing, among other things. I also need a 55x55mm post, about 3m long, and initially considered ordering one from a carpentry shop (not a standard size, unfortunately).

But then I thought it might be possible to make a post by gluing together two 28x70 fine-sawn raw boards. Some sawing and planing will be needed, and maybe rounding the corners slightly with a router. There could be money to save here!

Anyone with similar experiences? Am I "on track"? The post will be painted white, so it doesn't need to be "perfect," filler is available...

There are 28x70 with slightly rounded corners.
The problem if you glue them together
is that you get a rather visible seam.
55X55 are not available at bauhaus krauta
or silvan bygg?

Best regards, Putte

It's probably easier, and not much more expensive, to buy a 100x100 beam and saw it to 55x55. You avoid the glue joint then.
