To get a better solution for the kitchen in an old 50s house, we would need to relocate the basement stairs. The floor is made of concrete. The stairs would be moved adjacent to the same place where the stairs to the upper floor are and enclosed. The current basement stairs are made of concrete, so we would have to leave them as they are and "seal" the floor.

Grateful if someone could guide me regarding how extensive and costly a project this involves!

I'm in the same situation. Are you planning to do it yourself or are you thinking of hiring a company?

Outsourcing - not something we dare for ourselves. The alternative would be to remove the wall between the kitchen and living room to enlarge the kitchen, but it would be a shame to "ruin" the feeling of the house in that way. Thought I'd ask here first if the staircase move is at all a reasonable measure.
