Hello!

I was planning to replace a patio door and two windows with a folding window section. I will, of course, need to make a crossbeam, and would like to get some opinions on whether I'm on the right track.
Attaching two images to help.

The intended opening is 3100mm. The width of the house is 8300mm + a roof overhang of 700mm on each side. The floor joists between the floors are 45x200mm 60cc and the roof trusses are 45x145mm 120cc. The floor joists are supported in the middle by an LTB, 115x300mm, which is offset 300mm from the center of the room. The room on the upper floor is a bedroom, and the house was built in 1978.

Do you think it is possible to use a laminated beam of 115x315mm resting on 115x115 posts? Moelven's program shows 3mm deflection, I assume that is under full snow load?

The bonus question is; I was thinking of installing a Schueco folding section, is it possible to attach the frame directly to the laminated beam or should there be a separate lintel between the frame and the load-bearing laminated beam to attach to? In that case, I might need to go down to 115x270mm to make room.

Very grateful for any advice before I take this further to the carpenter!

You can attach the frame directly to the glulam beam. Check with Schuuco on how their section is installed. On some folding sections, it is important that the head of the frame is level as the folding sections hang more from the frame than stand on the threshold. So be precise when you install the beam and set it at the correct height so the threshold fits nicely against the floor.
