Took down a pair-cabin measuring 13*6 meters this past summer that my wife and I are going to rebuild on a poured slab with underfloor heating this summer. The timber is mostly in good condition but needs to be replaced in certain areas. The problem is that the corners were sawed off and the house had started to split at one corner. My question is how to dovetail a timber house without corners? I don't want to make new corners in the logs and thereby make the house smaller. Do we have to use dowels for every corner or should we put a beam in the corners and screw each log in place? Grateful for ideas

Doweling or if possible, mill/notch out for a finishing riddle. These are solutions that do not take up extra space.
Then it depends on how much you have to work with. If the house is being externally insulated, so that external extra studs can be concealed, then perhaps that is the easiest. However, with solid fastenings...

How close should the dowels be on a log wall in a log house without corners..
Referring to the earlier discussion with support beams..
Can you dowel with a regular iron rod?
What happened with borichard's project.. what was the solution??
I have a similar project.. that I'm pondering a bit over..

Why use a drift pin with an iron rod? There should be 2 drift pins on each log to be safe, even if they are really short.
Regarding the corners, I got a tip from a building conservator that it's enough to drift every 3rd row. You can check out the website Kvarnhemmet.n.nu to maybe get some ideas on how to or not to do it.
