Hello. I have noticed that there are some cracks and blemishes in the mortar on my old brick house. I have old papers stating it was built in the early 1900s. I've googled myself into insanity and don't know what type of mortar should be used on my house. I have no information on what has been used previously or if the joints have been renovated. The only thing I can show is some pictures. Anyone with a knowledgeable eye who can determine if KC-bruk should be used or if it's kalkbruk?
Actually saw the difference there today, since there have been some cracks and holes in the joint, should one mill out and apply lime mortar from the start? Could it be behind the renovation of coarse-grained lime mortar?
Absolutely, it could be old lime mortar. I am about to regrout parts of the facade and will use hydraulic lime mortar, meaning it works the same way as cement-based mortar but is more flexible.
