I due time, I will install new parquet - but I have a floor that is not particularly straight. It’s an old wooden house with parquet on plank flooring, which in turn rests on a joist system.

My first thought was to tear up the floor - remove the planks and screw and glue new battens on the side with noggings and then lay the plank floor again. The plank floor runs along the length of the apartment, but I’m unsure how to proceed since I have walls against the eaves where I won't be able to access, and I don't know how the planks are laid against the sidewalls. Additionally, there is a ventilation space between the kitchen and living room that the planks pass through.

The blue area in the picture is what needs to be leveled. A and B are peaks, then it slopes about one centimeter between B and C with the midpoint at the line above the living room that levels out to C. From C to D, it slopes up even more with a difference of about 3.5 cm. That is the most "visual."

How would you have done it?

  • Floor plan of an apartment showing rooms labeled in Swedish. Blue areas indicate sections to be leveled. Points A to D mark elevation changes within the space.
