Hi! We are considering putting up a wall here between the hallway and the stairs. A bit of a silly question, but could the blue-marked "stolpen" be load-bearing in any way? See image.

Thanks in advance!

  • Staircase with white balusters and a marked blue post, question about load-bearing potential between hallway and stairs.

It can be, for example, to ensure that the bjälklag above does not start to give way there.

Can the trellis also have a load-bearing function?

I would spontaneously say that the trellis with the accompanying post does not have a load-bearing function.

I agree with etompau about the trellis itself.

no!!

No, it is not load-bearing.

What makes everyone so sure that the post is not needed to prevent the floor above from sagging near the staircase?

I can't determine if it is load-bearing in any way, but does it really matter? If a wall is supposed to go there, it should take on the role of being load-bearing or non-load-bearing. As long as it stands in the same place, it should work.

Because it is insanely illogical for any engineer to use a turned post as part of the load-bearing structure.

Considering how miserably that post fits in, it's not impossible that some creative interior designer replaced the one that was there originally.

That post is only for aesthetic purposes and does not support the floor structure.

Right, claiming that turned posts with this slender dimension can be load-bearing 😄
