Hello

If you're constructing a new wall with gypsum, does it make any difference in reducing the risk of cracks at the transition if you use wood or metal studs?

I've searched and read a lot, but I can't figure out which is the best solution to avoid cracks over time. Is there even an answer, or is it impossible to avoid?

The best thing is to attach a strip to the new wall that goes over the crack, which will be about 2 cm and lies on top of everything, then everything can move without it being visible. If you go flush against a brick wall, it will always crack, everything moves a few mm here and there in a house.

A metal stud should move less than a wooden stud. A flexible joint in the transition reduces the risk of cracking.

Have used metal stud and then paintable flexible sealant between drywall and lightweight concrete wall without it cracking for 3 years. Should work on brick as well.

If I were to cover the entire wall where I have the seam with plasterboard, would it still cause problems? Screw on the wood side and maybe glue on the brick side of the seam?

I really don't want the seam to show at all.
