Floor plan of a 1939 apartment showing layout with bedrooms, living room, kitchen, and bathrooms. Inquiry about whether the wall is load-bearing. Floor plan of an apartment showing bedrooms, living room, kitchen, and bathrooms, dated 1939. Question about whether a wall is load-bearing.
Hello,

I am wondering if someone can help me determine if the wall between the bedroom and the living room is load-bearing.
Of course, we will also contact a structural engineer to get a professional opinion if we decide to proceed and remove it. This is regarding an apartment in a multi-family building made of brick, built in 1939.

Edit: Of course, we will follow all rules and regulations. We have already gotten approval from the board regarding another load-bearing wall (where we want to open up for a door). The wall I am now asking about is different, and should we choose to proceed, we will do it just as we did with wall no 1 (contact the board, get an opinion from a structural engineer, apply for a building permit, etc).

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,
Jonas

Hello and welcome to Byggahus!

I guess that it is not load-bearing.

Load-bearing walls appear significantly thicker on the drawing.

Thank you for the quick response!

We missed adding that we already know the wall between the bedrooms is load-bearing, and that the wall between the bedroom and the living room is about 10 cm thick.

It's important that you have a dialogue with the board of the BRF about this as the walls are owned by them regardless of whether they are load-bearing or not.

Of course, we will have a dialogue with the board (as well as consult a structural engineer for a statement) if we proceed - right now it's just a consideration.
