Hello!

I would like to install a 40x180 window in the kitchen in connection with the renovation, but I can't quite determine if the exterior wall on the short side might be load-bearing.

The house is a 1980s 1.5-story similar to a hillside house. See pictures. What would you say?

  • Floor plan of an 80s house with highlighted kitchen wall, questioning if it's load-bearing for adding a 40x180 window.
  • Illustration of 1980s-style 1.5-story house, northern facade. Red outline highlights potential window placement on outer wall.

All exterior walls are usually considered load-bearing here...

Well, gable walls are generally not load-bearing if you have self-supporting roof trusses..
I don't think the wall is load-bearing..

But don't you need to know if the roof trusses are self-supporting?

But even the wall construction above the future window weighs quite a bit, doesn't it?

Yes, it might be good to check...

Yes, but you take care of that when you create the opening, I don't think it will collapse when you open it up😉

Not at all sure that it's a truss on the gable. Many times builders save a bit and frame up the gable to the roof.
