Insulation/soundproofing behind interior paneling

Planning to install tongue and groove paneling and paint it white on a long wall in the hallway. Behind the wall are 3 bedrooms next to each other. The wall consists of glued chipboard, with strips of cardboard inside acting as studs, about 20cm apart. Not well insulated, quite noisy. Is there any thin soundproofing material that can be used between the wall and the paneling without needing to add studs?

Plasterboards are my suggestion.
Double dampens better than single.

Agree about plaster. The heavier the material, the better sound insulation, indeed. There are also special panels available for purchase at sound companies, but they are expensive.
