I am planning to install Siljan's 120mm whitewashed economy panel on the ceiling at the cottage. According to their installation instructions, it should be nailed. Likewise, the reseller doesn't want to answer the question about whether it's okay to use clips instead and just refers to the installation instructions.
Has anyone installed this with clips? What would the risk be of using clips instead of nailing in the groove? I want to avoid standing and nailing 50 sqm overhead and thought about using screw clips.

I assume you mean brad nailer or nail gun. Rent or buy a brad nailer and fasten the panel at the edge of each board so that the next board covers the nail head. There are decent guns for around 500 SEK that you can save up for in a morning. How thick is the panel? It's doubtful if 50 mm brads will suffice, but if they do, it's a fun job if you have a nail gun instead of nailing by hand. Consult the supplier. Personally, I've used 50 mm nails for 95 mm boards that were about 13 mm thick and it worked excellently. You might need to place the nail visibly since it is 120 wide and probably a bit thicker. There are nails with painted heads that are white, which gives a less noticeable appearance considering the panel is whitewashed. Using a nail gun will likely be much quicker than using staples.

The panel is 13 or 15mm, most likely it will be the 15mm one. If possible, I want to completely avoid placing nails visibly. According to the installation instructions (http://www.siljan.com/loaders/oo.php?objid=1702), one nail is sufficient for up to 120mm width, which is why I thought clips might work well too.
As recommended, nailing at an angle in the tongue (not the groove as I wrote above) will not hide the nail in my case, as part of the tongue will be visible. The manufacturer suggests a brad nail 2.2x45 if using a nail gun. Does anyone have tips on a suitable gun in the 500 SEK class? It might also be useful for the horizontal paneling that will go up on the wall
Even if it is nice if it goes a bit faster and is a bit simpler, I think I prefer a bit more work if I can achieve a completely hidden installation. The ceiling is to be mounted gradually in three rooms, so not 50m2 in one go

I wouldn't have placed anything at 1200, not clips or nailed with 4 inches, I would have spaced at 450 or 300 to avoid the risk of sagging.
I can't see the panel falling down, adjust so the gun drives in just right and place the pin slightly angled, double pins at each spot if spaced widely

I can recommend Biltema's Nail Gun for around 600 SEK (the one for 16ga nails). I just installed 18mm thick ceiling panels with it, and it works great. I also bought a Stanley compressor at Jula for about a thousand SEK with a 6-liter tank... it doesn't weigh much, and I haven't needed to increase the pressure more than halfway... haven't had a single operational stop on 45 square meters anyway.

If you're referring to my other thread I linked to, I was thinking of spacing/battening at 60cc (according to the installation instructions) across the existing spacing which is at 30cc but in the same direction as the panel will be placed. The question was what minimum thickness I need on that battening since I want to build downwards as little as possible. Is 12mm enough when it's attached 30cc to the existing spacing? Or do I need to go up to 20 or 22mm?

You can make it easy for yourself by using råspont 17*95, which will be a good and affordable option. 12+5 mm makes no difference and will be wide and good, so you avoid the risk of it cracking. At the same time, you want the nail to have something to hold onto so it doesn't slide out. The requirement for holding the insulation with gles, I believe, is 28x70 with 3" nails and 30-45 cm cc. You already have this, but adding another layer makes it simple. I have tried to hang and tug on a gles nailed with 100 mm nails using a nail gun and smooth nails. It slid out from my 95 kilos, so it is important to use the right fastening. Galvanized nails are rough and often hold better. You could use smaller and shorter nails, but you want to be able to sleep at night, I think. I have personally nailed a lot of paneling with 50 mm brads (pistol), and it works great. If you try to remove the panel, the nails stay put. Biltema's brad nailer probably works well for this.
Hmm, you are probably right, 12mm might be a bit weak for the nail even if it would handle the weight itself. I'll go up a bit in dimension. Now that I think about it, I probably have "scrap" 22x120 raw boards lying around that will be enough at least for the big room. But I'm having a hard time letting go of the idea of hidden fastening, we'll see where that ends up - purchasing a new machine for the collection could be an argument

Installed about 75m2 with screw clips. A bit of therapeutic work but went pretty quickly and I'm satisfied with the result. Bosch mini driver and cc 60 I believe. But cost-wise, it's probably cheaper to buy a brad nailer + brads at Biltema than to buy clips...at least for my 75m2.
