Hello,

we want to install a sliding door in a 15 cm wide lightweight concrete wall that is load-bearing. This would mean cutting open the existing doorway to make it twice as large (upwards on the drawing) and inserting a sliding door cassette in the cut-out section. How do we best determine if this is possible? There will be a small piece left, about 50 cm, of the wall next to the cut opening.

Floor plan showing a load-bearing lightweight concrete wall with a red-marked section for a proposed sliding door opening modification.

One needs to know a bit more about the house and its construction before one can give a good answer. Is it a townhouse? The construction year is also interesting. What is the intermediate floor made of? Is there a beam in the ceiling between the dining room and living room?
