Identify 60s detail in our house..
Hello,
We have a rather unique house built in 1964. Unfortunately, we don't have access to the person who built the house, but we've understood that he liked unusual details in the construction, and also smart solutions.
However, we can't find any logical explanation for what this feature in the stairwell was meant for...
My wife's best suggestion is (a bit humorously) that he might have had a crane in the stairs.
Can anyone think of any clever use he might have had in mind?
Kind regards,
Davidbagare

Certainly looks fun
Is it real brick or imitation
There's a doorbell and three junction boxes there
Sensible not to encase these when new wall covering was put up.
It was an innovative and imaginative person who did it.
I think it actually adorns the wall

Yes, it is real brick. And everything is original since the house was built. It's true that there is a doorbell and four junction boxes there.U Uffe A said:
The person who built it has marked the house with many special features. He was a craftsman himself, a bricklayer, and seems to have been full of building enthusiasm. But as I said, I would have liked to know if he had any thoughts with just this detail…

I think it looks like an artistically designed cutout to not cover any junction boxes and the doorbell when a brick decoration was to be put up. Nice bricks too btw.
More pictures from the house?
More pictures from the house?
Yes, that could be the case, of course. But I think this clever fellow might have had some other idea than just art in mind.. or I hope for it anyway..Fotografen said:
I will take some pictures of other "oddities" and post them when the kids have fallen asleep
Some more pictures upon request. He built this piece himself. The fun thing is it hadn't been used for 30 years when we bought the house. And after an inspection by the chimney technician, the statement was "Wow, those joints are excellent, and it's tight as can be. Just start burning." We installed the Spiskasett afterward.
