I am in the process of extending the house and I would like to have quite a lot of open floor plan (large kitchen and dining room). I have a span of 8 meters between the outer walls and 7 meters between the inner wall and the outer wall. If I use glulam, it will be over 60 cm high. I want the beam to be as low as possible; I only have a ceiling height of 240 cm, preferably so I can insert wooden joists into the H-beam. The house in question is a two-story house with a basement. It would be nice if someone could calculate or suggest someone who can calculate the dimensions for me.
You need much more info to be able to calculate the dimensions of the beam, but contact a designer or structural engineer, they can help. The municipality can usually help as well. Call some companies and check prices, they can probably vary a lot.
