Hello, we have a nice "lada/loge" that we plan to fix up in the long run.. and we've been looking a bit at how we should go about doing it.. but the paths are many and tricky.. so we thought we'd see how YOU would have done it! So shake those little gray cells up there.. and come up with lots of good tips and thoughts

This is how it looks today (you can at least see the principle of the frame)

Interior view of a barn with exposed wooden beams, roofing, and construction materials. Yellow and green lines indicate planned renovations.

What you might not see (don't know if it really is relevant, but still) is that it has a metal roof and the facade is also metal on the outside.. (but the old "planken" remain where they seem to be in good condition, nothing we've done).

Our idea is:

The room you see is to be divided, the left part (where you can glimpse windows) will be open up to the ridge type of (or as close as it can be, it's to be insulated).. meaning only half the room. To the right, where you see the "pit" is.. it will be two levels.. where the upper will mostly function as a cold attic.. and the lower part will be open and heated with the left part.. (not easy to explain haha)

Interior of a barn showing wooden beams and a high ceiling. Yellow lines indicate planned walls and ceilings; a green line marks the edge of a dug-out area.

Added a few lines to this picture.. the yellow lines indicate walls/future ceiling and the small green line shows where the edge of the pit goes.. today it's knocked in the concrete and we would like to build/cast a couple of dm and then some type of railing on top.. (how to do that best?)

Questions:
1. How do you insulate the walls best? (we're thinking of having hm, what do they call it.. hm råspont? on the inside.. painted white.. do you then need to have some other sheet material behind?)
2. How do you best build the ceiling (and insulate it and get some kind of protection against possible moisture/water from the outside)?

NOTE - this is not a luxury project.. we want to work well with the conditions we have.. it's just a fun project and it should be well done (correctly done, or as good as possible at least) but with some financial limitations.. :)

Any thoughts? Questions?
Best regards, Sandra

You don't have to answer everything.. ;) any thoughts on any part?
Maybe start with step one..

The Roof, how would you insulate it?

As mentioned, it's a sheet metal roof on the outside and old wood underneath (in some places not quite as nice / missing here and there)..
Should one attach some board between the roof beams? or does it have to sit on top? Insulate then? How much? So that you fill the "gap between the beams" (i.e., maybe 15 cm) or more?

Best regards, Sandra
