How to set the miter saw here?

How do I set the saw to achieve a neat inside corner on the baseboard between the wallpaper and the panel? 90 degree inside corner where one baseboard should angle upward and the other is horizontal.

You can't get the corner really well because the strip that goes diagonally upward gets a longer cut surface.

I would have placed the horizontal strip first cut at 45 degrees and then fit the other one against it.

I would have tried with 45 degrees at an angle and turned half the angle on the wall. Maybe I'm misinterpreting the picture but try it on some scrap pieces.

Run the straight one without mitering. Push the slanted one against it and saw off the tip that ends up underneath.

Yes, but I also have to cut it at an angle so that it fits into the breastplate's shape, though it might not be so difficult with the jigsaw. I'll try with some scrap pieces.

You can use decorative blocks in difficult corners. A block with some design on it and presto, you have straight edges to butt the molding against!

One should always avoid mitering in inner corners. Choose one of the other two alternatives suggested, decorative block, or forkrappa as it's called when you push one material against the other and cut out the contour in the end grain.

Here's how it turned out. Mitered one inner corner and the other became some variant of a butt joint or whatever it's called. It'll probably be fine with some latex as everything will be painted in the panel's color.

Not to complain... but latex sealing on the difficult mitre (impossible) I'm not sure if it will be that good. I would definitely have used some form of decorative block.
