Hello.
I am going to lay laminate flooring and want to cut off the lower part of the molding to "slide in" the floor underneath.
I would preferably not like to remove the molding to saw it and wonder if it is possible to saw it in place?

Grateful for tips!!

yes it works with one of those Japanese saws. Available at jula and a bit everywhere. Probably works with some hacksaw blade too if you're a bit persistent.....

I actually have one like this:

But it doesn't go all the way into the corner, right?

Well, you need to get one that goes all the way into the corner!!! I'm sure I've seen one like that at the villa fair on one of those tables with brahasaker.

For the tool fetishist, it's probably only a Fein Multimaster that will do ;)

A small, handy multitool that is an expert at these types of tasks.
A thin, flexible blade with a very high frequency gives amazingly sharp cuts in the most impossible places.

This year's "good to have thing"

Thanks for the tips.

MathiasS -> hehe, well, I should probably wear down the one I have first...

elof -> I've actually been wondering if a Fein Multimaster could handle it. I have a friend who has one, so I should probably try to borrow it.
Unfortunately, it might be a bit too expensive to buy just for this project, and I don't really know what else I could use it for...
And no "Taiwanese" has copied it to make a cheaper version, either?

cpalm -> That one has the teeth in the "wrong direction" (or right, if you prefer), I probably need one of the pull models.

According to the description, a "special model" that cuts in both directions.

Yes, borrowing is perfect, though I think you'll become very taken with this little nice machine. I was a bit skeptical myself when I bought mine but have found more and more uses for it.

Exactly as you say, it's unique in its kind (as far as I know), no one has managed to copy it yet, it's good anyway, even though it's a bit pricey.

Good luck!

Well, look at that ;D
I only read the upper text :-[.
Maybe I should try one like that if I can't get hold of the Fein machine.
Thanks!

Tips for more uses?
Price (approximately)?

The Multimaster from Fein is available in three different packages: Start, Select, and Topp. The differences between the packages are that the Start includes a slightly simpler machine without control electronics, and then the main differences are in the accessories included in the box (see more at the link).

Application areas then...yes, like a Dremel but better :) I've used the saw the most, but the triangular sander has been used quite a bit as well. In short, it's perfect for all smaller sanding and polishing jobs.

The price then...my Top set cost 2500 excluding VAT, but if you choose the smaller set, the price probably drops by about a thousand. You can buy accessories as needed.

(On the link, there is a link to "application areas" where all the advantages of the machine are highlighted)

If you use a chisel carefully, it can work, there's always latex afterward :)

Edit. I mean, a chisel where you might not be able to reach with any kind of saw...

Yes, that is indeed an option.

I've reached my friend now and will be able to borrow his Fein, so I'll try that.
Thanks for all the answers!

The trim piece is gone... have also gone loose on more trims :D.

Elof -> I was completely sold on the multi-master - what a tool! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
