I am planning to build my own TV stand from recycled wood, which I intend to mount on the wall. So it will be a wall shelf that the TV (Samsung LED) stands on. The wall is made of plasterboard. Now I wonder what methods are available to proceed with for mounting it. What types of brackets are best for this purpose and plugs, etc. If the whole thing should be reinforced in some way or so. I would like to hear what is recommended and why.

I would like the brackets to be as inconspicuous as possible but understand it will be difficult to avoid.

The easiest approach is probably to try to screw into the already existing studs, and if that unexpectedly doesn't work, it depends a bit on how heavy the TV shelf will be.

But..

Option 1 is to use regular brackets (http://static1.bygghemma.se/product...-4d6afa528b36/konsol-lundbergs-sixten-vit.jpg) preferably in your studs, alternatively use molly plugs depending on how heavy your shelf will be.

Option 2 can be applied if the studs in the wall are not located exactly where you want them. You then need to supplement behind the drywall with studs, called kortlingar. These are usually placed horizontally between your regular wall studs and attached in an appropriate manner - for example with angle brackets or just wood screws at an angle or from the other side of the stud. Option 2 means that you need to get behind the drywall with a stud.

Option 3 is my last tip, and I actually wonder why you don't just choose to mount the TV directly on the wall instead of on a shelf? You can indeed hide cables, etc., inside the wall and place the electrical outlet right behind the TV so it doesn't show, etc.

I'm almost always against having completely invisible brackets on a shelf because it almost always results in the shelf tilting forward. Take a look in an IKEA store at their shelves with completely invisible brackets and be amazed that all the shelves in the store lean forward. You probably don't want your TV shelf to look like that.

Thanks for the answer TuXy. I've already been thinking about maybe mounting the TV on the wall. But I haven't decided if I want to do that or not, and I think it can't hurt to at least make a shelf that, if I want, can hold a TV. Otherwise, it will be game consoles, set-top boxes, etc., on the shelf (or shelves, probably two in height).

Going behind the plaster doesn't feel like an option for me. It will probably be a matter of trying to find studs to attach to. Then I know I didn't want the brackets to be visible. But when I was just searching for stable brackets, I found this: https://www.byggmax.se/forvaring/vaggskenor-och-konsoler/konsol-p257221. And I think that can give a nice industrial look to the whole thing.

Is a molly plug something that can be used even in studs, or should it be screws only there? Should I use rings or something else? What kind of screw do I use for this bracket? Should I try to find a drywall screw that grips the steel stud but has a flat head for the bracket?
