I was thinking about building eaves on the garage, in part to install spotlights. However, I'm not sure how to proceed?
Boards on the rafters and paneling underneath? Will that be problematic with the pitch of the rafters?

The easiest is to underspike and also one on the front edge of the rafters and choose adjustable spotlights.
Otherwise, put up some battens that straighten the angle at the rafter and do the same as above except for adjustable spotlights.
Don't forget insect mesh and spacing between the planks during underspiking (if you have a ventilated roof, that is).
