I don't know if this is the right forum section, but I have a house with a large garage/storage building of 170 sqm next to it, and I was thinking it would be nice to build an apartment of about 100 sqm. Since I've never worked on anything like this before, I need to know a lot of things, such as how to insulate and how thick it should be inside the brick walls, how to better insulate the floor and ceiling, or if it's already sufficient. There's a cast concrete slab, but I don't know how thick it is, or if it's possible to move the existing plumbing in the concrete slab.
So, I need to know a lot and want to find a good book that describes the procedures and facts on how to do the basics, and if it's possible to dig a culvert the 30 meters from the main house with hot water and maybe underfloor heating to use the same boiler.
Does anyone know a good book that describes everything?
One part of the garage is well insulated, first with drywall then (at least) 30 cm of insulation and then a 50 cm air gap, and then the roof itself with felt, but the other part of 70 sqm has only 17 cm of insulation and then plastic and metal roofing directly on there, so I guess that's the part that needs additional insulation and maybe an air gap between the insulation and the outer roof.
How much insulation should there be in the roof and walls?

I think you should go for this one: http://www.byggbokhandeln.com/sok/detalj.asp?ArtikelNummer=6361102
Costs a penny, but it's a bible. Usually available at the bibblan

I agree, it's crazy. But the edition might not be that large, and it's probably mostly companies footing the bill.andersmc said:
But as I said, I found it at the city library, unfortunately only as a reference.
But based on Barkis's description of their project, I find it hard to imagine a more suitable book to seek knowledge from.
It becomes a bit difficult to try to answer "everything" in just one thread, try to break down the questions into different threads under the respective section!
Sure, for example, it's possible to dig a culvert, ask the question here:
http://forum.byggahus.se/vaerme-allmaent/
How much insulation there "should" be in walls and ceilings has been discussed many times before, for example:
http://forum.byggahus.se/smalandsvillan/37958-ny-isoleringstjocklek-i-vaeggarna.html
http://forum.byggahus.se/prefab-traehus/60221-val-av-isoleringstjocklek.html
That question then fits well here:

Is this really the right book? I'm having a bit of trouble finding any meaning with AMA AF 07 for the type of questions that Barkis is asking. AMA mainly goes through general control, coordination, and responsibility rules for various contracts and related procurement. Therefore, no specific construction or installation "guides" are included.

It probably wasn't quite right for me to recommend that book. Hopefully, no one has bought it without flipping through it.
I probably thought wrong and assumed it was a later edition of "Hus AMA 98. General material and work description for building work," which I believe is the one I actually meant. I have checked one of the many "AMA" that exists quite a bit but haven't noted the exact title of it.
I apologize for the misguided recommendation.
