- anyone have tips on boards of good quality and as even in color as possible without shade differences?
- how does it compare to solid oak that isn't stave-jointed?

For A, we respond... that it's probably just a matter of hand-picking and examining records.
For B... it's probably mostly a matter of taste what one finds appealing. Durability is hardly any different.

If we're going to talk about the differences between stave-glued and solid, stave-glued is generally more dimensionally stable, but it is doubtful if this will manifest in small pieces in steps.
