How do you frame an exterior wall?
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a good guide on how to build an exterior wall aside from how to install the studs.
I've checked out two guides but don't quite understand them.
One from Bauhaus
http://www.fixartv.se/regla
This one is good with a video too. But they seem to skip many steps.
And one from BOLIST.
https://bolist.se/guide/uppfora-enkel-yttervagg-i-tra/
The one from BOLIST seems to be super good?
I would be grateful if someone could point me to a good step-by-step guide.
Thanks

Hi,
When I look at the Bauhaus guide, I get stuck on certain steps. Why do you need the Plyfa panels and why should there be a 120cm spacing between each stud(is it some kind of law)?, and why is it so important that it should be exactly 60cm between the studs, otherwise you will need a stud in between.
in step 5: it says that the insulation comes at 60cm, is it always like that, if it is, then is 120cm spacing a law?
Then in step 8: they start nailing the stud frame, and by that do they mean the frame that holds all the studs in place? and why should you nail from above?
and can you please explain step 10?
Is there anything else to consider when framing an exterior wall?
Sorry if these are difficult questions, I just want to learn
Thanks

I think this is good reading http://www.fiskarhedenvillan.se/Documents/Kataloger/Tips_och_Rad.pdf
However, you must understand that it's Fiskarhedenvillan's solution, a wall can be built in many different ways, depending on insulation requirements, loads, etc. But it provides a good overview of how it works.
If you want to learn to build a wall. Surf around, ask questions. Building a wall is much more than just "building a wall." There are many parts in a house that fit together. You must see the whole picture before placing a wall on the foundation. Let it take time. Another tip is to check out "Hur gör snickaren" on YouTube. There are many good tips there! Generally much better than Bauhaus videos I think.

The measurements are just to make it fit smoothly. The timbers are 45mm and then the insulation boards fit without needing to cut them. The same goes for the size of the boards.
Hello and thank you for the response.Johannes Carlsson said:
You're absolutely right. But when I look at the Bauhaus video, it seems perfectly fine.
But I don't understand what I wrote up there.
