Hi!

We're doing some renovation in the hallway... There was previously a trellis along the edge of the stairs, but we've removed it to replace the ceiling. At the same time, we realized how incredibly ugly it was before, so the trellis won't be coming back. But what can we do so that it's not completely open along the edge of the stairs??? See pictures below.

The hallway is quite dark to begin with, so it would be nice to have a solution that doesn't block the light. The stairs will probably be painted or something in a lighter tone than they are now. We've considered plexiglass or maybe a half-height wall, with some studs continuing upwards to hold the railing. All ideas are warmly welcomed, so come on and let your imagination flow!!!

  • A wooden staircase with brown steps and no railing, adjacent to wooden panel walls, in a dimly lit hallway under renovation.
  • A wooden staircase in a hallway with wood paneling and an exposed metal beam, previously had a railing, and is part of a renovation project to enhance lighting.
A single, sturdy post that matches the one on the right (but of course not all the way up to the ceiling) and then a handrail attached to the wall. If there are kids, then a lower handrail to prevent any little ones from falling out.

Thank you for the answers! Or if we manage, perhaps a combination of the two answers above?! Small posts that match the one on the right and a larger one in the same style. A bit of work to get it right, but it might be an idea... Does anyone have any more suggestions? They are warmly welcomed!
