Hello! My partner and I have bought a house from the 60s and were wondering if anyone knows how to take down these tiles?

  • Ceiling with white tiles in a 1960s house, featuring a central ceiling light fixture, set against deep red walls with white trim.
Are they loose like acoustic panels?
Then you should just be able to angle them and take them down.
Otherwise, they might be glued - then you'll have to rip/chisel them off...

Doesn't look like those, they are probably attached with nails/glue.

There are also similar tiles in the living room and bedroom. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the house this week, so I can't answer what material it is.

  • Ceiling with textured panels and a ceiling fan in view.
I assume you want to replace them with a smooth plaster ceiling. Either there is tongue and groove underneath or sparse paneling. Then it will either be framing up for plaster or putting the plaster directly on the tongue and groove.

So there is no usable ceiling underneath, you have to build it up yourself.
