Hi!

We want to tear down the wall between the kitchen and the living room to open up to a larger space. When we started demolishing, it's not just drywall and studs, but the wall is filled with some black stone-like material. The building is from the 1930s and was renovated in the 1980s.

Is it safe to tear down this wall or should we take something into consideration?

If you're unsure, you should contact someone who can provide you with information to make you certain. Such a person is likely a byggkonstruktör.

The forum's oracle Justus A (RIP) in these types of questions taught us that in old houses everything can be load-bearing.

The black stone-like material sounds like slag stone/slag brick. Quite common during the 30s and 40s.

This is how it looks, read something about blåbetong as well.

It is not possible to accurately see the color in reality online. But before you wrote black and not bluish dark gray with sponge texture.

But it's an apartment, so it might be good to ask the board.

It looks like it is light concrete, have you done a wall investigation?
If you need one, I can help with that, send a pm.
