Hello,

4x4m pergola
90x90 posts with cast footing in corners
45x195 beam against house wall and around
70x70 post in the middle to attach slats later.
I was thinking of hanging this

A strap around the beam?
Trapezoidal screw straight up?

Do I need to reinforce with an extra 45x195 horizontally roughly where the swing will be to prevent the beam from swaying sideways when lightly swinging?
As mentioned, 2 attachment points

  • Wooden pergola with a gravel floor, featuring a red outline suggesting swing attachment points, adjacent to a white house and garden.
Trapezoidal screw will be good for fastening, but you might need to mount a couple of diagonals to make the pergola steady if you want to swing.

Is one horizontal enough?
The swing will only be about 1m away from the post

  • Wooden pergola with a bamboo roof and a red mark indicating a horizontal beam, surrounded by greenery and a blue sky background.
Is the pergola sturdy now?

So damn much

Then you can try without diagonals.

How thick trapezoidal screw can one safely use in the 45 rule? Pre-drill?

I would double the rule before hanging a swing on/ in it if I were you, but if it's sturdy and doesn't move in any joint, it might still work.

Ok I can do that along with a horizontal brace. Then instead of using a trapeze screw, could I use a long type of carriage bolt straight through from below through all 195cm with a bolt/washer on top and something like a carabiner at the bottom. Or are 2 big trapeze screws the way to go?

Isn't it appropriate to study how swings are attached in kindergartens and similar places nowadays if you are going to use the swing frequently?

Study? Then I wouldn't have needed to write here?

Personally, I just used lifting slings around a doubled 45*145 when I hung the swing outside.

I would not place a trapezoidal screw straight up and rely on the screw threads to support body weight.
If you want a vertical screw, use a through-bolt with a large washer.
If you don't want to use a through-bolt, then screw horizontally.

A friend has hung up a similar swing, he hung it directly with trapeze hooks into the beam. Works perfectly well for my ~100kg when I've sat there.

I also have a hook exactly like that, but it's mounted for a "baby swing." It probably works perfectly fine in most cases, but I still wouldn't recommend it when the original poster talks about swinging a bit in wood that is exposed to weather and wind.
