2000 years ago, the Romans literally put troublesome Jewish youths in their place with these. ;)
 
We had some of those at my uncle's 50th birthday party in a competition, although they were "only" around 24cm. My cousin, who is an electrician, said they usually use them for these types of electric poles. Exactly what they nail, I never asked. =)
 
Looks like old-fashioned brewing nail but I could be wrong!
The length seems to match though :)

at my job, we nail the finished outer walls with similar nails, through electric pipes that have been cast into the concrete floor (20cm) and then down into the section below :)
 
There are even heavier ones available. Look at those used to nail together Stocklador, for example :)
