Hello!

I was going to put up a grid in my daughter's room (the kind you can hang things on) and started drilling carefully without a hammer drill first, so the holes wouldn't be too large. Then I drilled with a hammer drill, and the paint around the drill hole started to peel off in large flakes of 1-2 cm. It looks very unsightly.
In the second picture, I've filled around the hole, I guess I'll fix it with some paint later.

How do you avoid results like this?

  • A drilled hole in a wall with surrounding chipped paint, showing damage after using a hammer drill.
  • Drilled wall with flaking paint around a hole caused by using a hammer drill; visible peeling and paint damage.
In my experience, using an SDS drill with a diameter smaller than the SDS attachment can often cause damage. SDS drill bit set with red arrow pointing at a 5mm diameter bit, illustrating potential issues with mismatched SDS tool fittings.
