Gypsum plaster=Gypsum filler??

I have heard that it's supposed to be wonderfully good to use gypsum filler instead of regular sand filler. It's said not to sink and be easy to work with...

I happen to have half a bag of gypsum mortar and wonder if it's the same thing. That is, can I use my bag of gypsum mortar to fill seams with???
