There are some gaps between the cladding and the facade on our house that we intend to scrape down to the wood and then paint with linseed oil paint this summer.

Would like to seal these joints. I found a product from Casco called fasadfog

Does anyone have experience sealing joints outdoors on older buildings? How did people do it in the past (window putty?)

Avoid joining as much as possible... Wood moves... back and forth, winter summer winter summer.
Also with varying humidity...

It’s a lot of back and forth. The only solution that works forever, a gap.

Maybe you can screw the molds against the panel to make the gap more manageable.

Personally used sealant, admittedly with latex sealant intended for outdoor use. After two years, the most protected wall has started to look a bit shabby...

The others became shabby after about a year...

In building conservation contexts, window putty works as "outdoor filler" for minor fillings. It hardens very slowly if it's linseed oil putty. It may eventually fall off when the putty hardens and the boards move. Take down and adjust the moldings if it is not possible to nail/screw them better.
