Glued laminated post compared to glued laminated beam?

I am going to straighten a farmhouse roof and was planning to use 115x115 glulam to strengthen from underneath between the rafters.

115x115 is listed as a post. While for instance, 90x270 is listed as a beam.

Does the title matter? Can I use a post as a beam?



(Very difficult to get hold of material right now so one alternative is to buy 90x270 and rip it into two 90x135)

No. It's just the measurements that make their most common use as a column or beam.
