I have searched and searched for information but can't find any reasonable answer.

I'm going to build a triangular window that is 5 * 5 blocks in size with a "stair" at the bottom.

So, it looks like this:

0 0 0 0 0
0 0 0 0
0 0 0
0 0
0

The wall is built with 170*45 studs and is to be insulated.

The idea is to glue the blocks together with plastic tracks instead of rebar.

But to the question!
Some say you should use cellular plastic or similar to absorb movement between the wood and the glass blocks. Some say it's just a matter of gluing directly.

Does anyone have a reasonable explanation of what needs to be done and how it should be done?

We embedded glass blocks in a wooden wall about ~25 years ago.
We used regular mortar and it still holds. :cool:
 
Ok. But the big question is whether you need something that absorbs the movements between the glass and wood.
 
The only thing we have is mortar directly against the window frame. Then there are nails driven into the frame on each side at every joint vertically.
