Help a novice
My wife wants me to install 4 glass blocks in an existing hole in the wall between the garage and the basement that the previous owner made. There will be quite a bit of space between the glass blocks and the wall. How do I best fill it up? Cut lecablocks or just with cement?
Grateful for any answers!
ps. apparently, it's urgent all of a sudden, after 18 years in the house...

Lecablocks insulate a bit better than concrete. But this was between two heated spaces? Then insulation doesn't matter? How many cm need to be filled? It's difficult to get lecablocks to hold if you, for example, need to cut 2cm thick lecablocks. Then there will be many small pieces.
If it's less than about 7cm, I would place a board on the inside and outside (like a mold). Make sure the top edge of the board is level and at the right height, then mix cement, sand, and leca-balls. If more needs to be filled, I would cut lecablocks and mortar them. Mortar b.
If insulation doesn't matter, you could replace leca-balls with gravel/sand in the casting.

I made a wooden frame like a karm that fit into the opening, mounted the glass blocks. Then everything was lifted into place in the opening, similar to installing a fixed window. This was when I built the sauna in the basement.
Thank you! It's more than 7 cm both horizontally and vertically. Should the glass blocks be placed before casting?B BSOD said:Lecablocks insulate a bit better than concrete. Under the blocks, it's easier to cast before the blocks are there; otherwise, you can't get the concrete in a reasonable way.
If you're going to do something above or on the sides of the blocks, I would go with cut blocks for purely practical reasons.
