I would recommend loops in the frame and loops in the casing with a bolt in between, if the hatch is not going to hang on hinges anyway.

Googled Airport access hatch and it seems popular to have hinges that consist of "teeth" or whatever you might call it on the hatch. Then you just have a rod through it all. See here: [link]
That was a good picture (y)

Kind of like this Concrete slab on mossy ground with fallen leaves scattered on top.

Very good picture. (y):D

Just keep in mind to have a bushing of type brass or oil bronze in the ear, otherwise it will cut there.

Edit: and a grease nipple so you can get grease into the joint

Ball bearing

If you're not going to open the hatch daily, it's unnecessarily expensive and difficult to construct it well.

OK :surprised: What are your experiences regarding ball bearings in such hatches? Is the installation the issue?

I actually have no experience with bearings in gaps like these, but ball bearings rust, brass or oil bronze do not.

Not ball bearings in such hatches, but ball bearings in general and constructions similar to this hatch..

I work with manufacturing sawmill machinery, and there are many heavy hatches and similar..

Material and processing for it to work with ball bearings
