Hello everyone,

In a few weeks, the basement foundation will be cast. Since the foundation is underground, we will build a form and insulate the footing with the same draining insulation that the basement wall gets instead of using edge elements.

Now to what is in the headline. Does anyone have tips on where to find cheap timber for all the support legs and similar (I will buy tongue and groove for the form itself)? Is there any sawmill where you can pick up scrap, hardware stores with a scrap bin to pick from, or a large construction site you can ask? Preferably somewhere around (preferably east of) Lund within a 2-3 mile radius.

Best regards,
Pär

I think you've already answered your own questions. Most lumber yards/building supply stores sort out cracked and poor quality wood. So ask around, they are likely willing to make money on something they would otherwise throw away. And asking at a construction site is not a bad idea either. I have myself received/bought/traded large amounts of building materials at construction sites. At construction sites, a lot of wood packaging and poor quality pallets are thrown away, which can provide wood.

My thought was to get concrete tips on places that a fellow forum member actually knows. Like construction X here and there has or I have demolished my outhouse and would rather not drive some of the material to the dump.
