Foam sealant from Byggmax

Was going to seal around a part on the hot tub. Wrapped plastic around the detail, applied foam sealant and placed a wooden board and weight on top. The foam was expelled just as expected. All foam that was expelled hardened in an hour. But the foam around the detail is just a loose mass... It has therefore not hardened.

This is around a part that is 39 degrees...

Can anyone explain what went wrong? Too high temperature? (can't find anything on Byggmax's site about temperature)

  • Polyurethane foam partially solidifying around a black component under gray material, with visible foam extrusion between two surfaces outdoors.
  • Expanding foam around a hot tub part with a rock for weight and plastic wrap. Jeans and other tools are nearby on a wooden deck.
  • Expanding foam covered with plastic wrap, partially hardened, on a wooden surface with tools nearby. Issues with curing process are under discussion.

Yes, this was the cheapest possible...
When I bought it, there wasn't a plan to do just this but only to fill some foam gaps.

Maybe too dense or too dry?
It's the humidity that makes the foam harden. Try getting a little water in.

It's the humidity that causes the foam to harden. Try adding some water.
Do you mean like spraying directly on the foam?

You usually spray on the surface where the foam is to be applied, but it probably works the other way around too.

Is it possible that you waited too short a time? It seems like that plastic is quite airtight? I have a feeling that it might significantly extend the curing time?

It said about 2 hours.
It wasn't completely sealed… gaps here and there
But quite dry though…and warm…

Yes, or try to get it in where it has cured poorly. Probably the surface becomes sealed and prevents the inner part from curing.

When I bought it, the plan was not to do exactly this but only to seal some Styrofoam gaps.
Buy better quality, what is your outdoor temperature?

The quality doesn't matter if the conditions for curing are absent.

Foam that is too old also cures worse.

How smart of you, did you just come up with that?😉

No. At 16:31

Foam sealant needs oxygen and a certain humidity to expand and cure.

Over 30 degrees and you will get exactly that result. If it is not possible to turn off the heat source, I would try spraying water on beforehand and just spray a thin layer the first time. If you get it to cure, the rest will go well afterwards.
