Hello, I have some questions regarding the insulation of a revised facade. It's a wooden house with an air gap of about 100mm and a board made of straw or something similar. Anyway, since the plaster is starting to deteriorate and needs to be redone, I thought I would insulate at the same time. But I'm not sure which system to use, foam plastic or some type of wool. Is it bad for the house to use foam plastic? Could it become too sealed? I would prefer not to have to move the windows, and with foam plastic, you might be able to use a thinner board to avoid that... Grateful for a response, Danne...

You might need to describe the construction a little better if you want some sensible answers.

100mm air gap, sounds like a lot...

Anyway, if you don't want to move the windows out, the question is whether it's worth adding insulation. In any case, 100mm of polyurethane insulation (pir) is equivalent to about 200mm of foam. It's probably possible to plaster on even if there isn't any ready-made system.

I don't know what you need to know, but since the rendering is starting to deteriorate and needs to be redone, I thought right away about insulating, and if I've understood it correctly, I don't need to knock down what is bad (no major detachments), but to place the insulation on top of the existing rendering.
So the question is whether it would be better with thin polystyrene and mesh to then render on, or if one should lay a 50mm wool and mesh, considering how the house will fare, like if it becomes too airtight and develops mold or something...

Yes, you are right, it is probably smaller.
