Hello,
We have a 1.5-story house on a slab. I've noticed that the floor upstairs has developed a ridge, not a big one but a small elevation along the upstairs, right above a load-bearing interior wall on the ground floor which is also right along the middle of the house.
What is the cause of this and is it something to worry about?
The upstairs has a wooden joist structure, probably chipboard and then parquet flooring. The floor hasn't separated, I noticed the difference with a spirit level. We don't notice any other issues, like jammed windows or doors, cracks, or subsidence.
Addition: the house was built in 2005. No extensive renovations have been done, and the house looks as it did when it was built in terms of layout. It is a Vittjärvshus.
Thanks for now!

Have you come to any further conclusions about your floor? Have you opened it up to check how it looks?G gardinstång said:Hi,

There is wood framing on the upper floor, probably chipboard and then parquet flooring. The floor hasn't separated, I noticed the difference with a spirit level. We don't notice any other problems, like sticking windows or doors, cracks, or settling.

No, we haven't opened it up. We are keeping an eye on it and haven't noticed any "deterioration," so we've concluded that the beams have probably sunk a little but not "around" where the load-bearing wall is.
We have exactly the same problem on our upper floor, but to the extent that it bulges where each wall on the lower floor is. We haven't seen any other changes with the house overall, so we plan to open up the floor on the entire upper floor and level it, unless we find something else that needs to be addressed 😱G gardinstång said:
Have you always had it like that, or has the change appeared recently? Is it also a wooden house?T TessanDoo said:We have exactly the same problem on our upper floor, to the extent that it bulges where each wall on the lower floor is. Feel free to update how it goes once you've opened it up. As the worried soul I am, I worry about this periodically, so it feels "comforting" that more people experience the same phenomenon.
The house was built in the 80s, and we've lived here since 2013. And yep, it's a wooden house. The floor has had unevenness all along, but right now I imagine it's gotten worse. However, we've removed a wall (non-load-bearing!) on the upper floor, and we're currently renovating up there, so it's very sparse on furniture, which probably makes it feel worse since you can now move around a larger area than before. Fully furnished, you tend to walk around the problems, so to speak. And as mentioned, we haven't seen any other changes since we moved in.G gardinstång said:
I can say that even I was "glad" when I saw your post. "Oh, someone else who has it like us" 😅
I recognize the worry, you start to ponder and imagine things, and eventually, you think the whole house is about to collapse! I'll promise to get back when we've progressed to the floor.
