Hi, I have bought an Älvsbyhus where the deck has been done incorrectly and parts of the facade have become water damaged. I am planning to replace the lower parts but can't find where to buy similar facade panels. I've been to a lot of different construction stores but none have these in stock and "regular" facade panels are too thick, i.e. 22cm. Has anyone done something similar or replaced the facade on an Älvsbyhus?

  • Close-up of a house facade showing moisture damage at the base, with weathered siding panels and a partially adjacent wooden deck.
Call Älvsbyhus?

I also have to replace some paneling.
Have searched like crazy without success but just read that it is specially made for Älvsbyhus, not so smart it seems.
Considering buying regular 22mm paneling and milling the edges so it fits.

Where is the panel nailed at the bottom, above what is affected?

The panel is cracked here and there, hence the replacement.
There is no rot.

What I mainly thought about is whether it's necessary to replace the panel, and if it's nailed a bit higher up, you can cut the panel and place a metal sheet at the bottom inserted behind the existing panel, which would result in less work and be cheaper.

Is there anything in the pictures you show here that you plan to replace? I don't really see anything I would replace at all. I am in the process of repainting our house from 1997, and I am using Sika in a few places where there are longer/larger gaps between panel boards, but it has held up very well, in my opinion. However, they have done something really stupid by screwing the support beam into the foundation 5-10 mm from the end grain. In some places, it's now impossible to reach under with primer/paint. I am quite careful to clear those places of debris so that damp leaves don't stay there. I also used compressed air when I was about to paint.

Thanks everyone for the answers!
I called Älvsbyhus, who indicated that their façade panel can only be picked up from them, i.e., up in Älvsbyn.. I did as some of you suggested and cut off the damaged part, bought 22mm panel which was planed down to the correct thickness and nailed up :) applied some filler/sealant before sanding and painting!

Worked perfectly!
Now it was just a small part at the bottom that we needed to replace :)

I did that and it worked fine :)

Sealed smaller gaps but this is probably best to replace.

  • Close-up of gray wooden planks with visible gaps and markings, suggesting they may need replacement despite minor seal repairs.
Tested sealing and painting and it will probably have to do,

  • Vertical wooden panels painted grey after sealing.
Anyone have more tips on how to easily replace the rotten facade on an Älvsbyhus where the panel has rotted at the bottom?
