Hello!
I recently bought a villa built in 1980 and we received the keys at the beginning of February. Our first project was the living room, where we planned to quickly and smoothly repaint the walls. It soon escalated to laying renovation plasterboard (6mm) over the old particleboard walls when we realized they were quite uneven and there was a lot of cracking in the old surfaces around windows and doors (see attached).
The first wall is now plastered. We've had to do a bit of puzzling towards the end to fit nicely at the corners and around all the windows, which has resulted in some larger gaps of up to 7mm between certain boards (see attached). Some are due to a bit of carelessness and some due to damage after installation.
My question is, how do I best fix these gaps? I want to minimize the risk of new cracks forming. I would be happy if I could avoid cutting/sawing new boards since these were a bit tricky to deal with...
Are the gaps between the boards small enough that I can just fill them with joint compound/broad filler, or is something else, a bit coarser, required?
Should one use fiberglass or paper tape in the joints?
Grateful for answers!
Best regards
