Hi

My friend has just bought an apartment that we are now going to repaint. One of the walls had a crack that we would scrape off. It turns out there are several layers of wallpaper and sandy filler underneath that just come off. What are your tips? How can we fill it? Maximum depth is 2 cm. Maximum width is about 10 cm.

  • Damaged wall with multiple wallpaper layers peeling off, revealing sand-like filler with a crack underneath. The wall has floral and patterned wallpaper.
  • Close-up of peeled plaster and wallpaper layers from a wall revealing a rough, sandy texture, with debris scattered on the floor in the background.
  • Peeling wall with visible crack and multiple layers of old wallpaper and sandy filler underneath.

Agree with husfix. There is gypsum filler available for purchase in bags if you find there’s a lot to fill, but otherwise, husfix is convenient and easy to handle, you can whisk it together in the kitchen, so to speak.
(Have lived in a house that eventually more or less consisted of husfix 😂 and gypsum mortar/filler. Wherever we touched the walls, the plaster layer crumbled. That's when we discovered gypsum filler in bags. Seems it could be called "gypsum filler" in these times of linguistic decay 😉.
