Planning to build a starry sky over a fairly large ceiling, and I'm on the hunt for fiber optics to create my own.

I read somewhere that you should be able to buy fiber optics by the roll???

Gratefully accepting tips on where to buy or advice from those with experience with starry skies/fiber optics...

=)

I put a starlit sky in my living room! I will never do that again. Admittedly, there's full ceiling height there, which made the work significantly more difficult. If you can mount it from above, it is recommended. I had to drill hundreds of 1mm holes in my ceiling panels as I put them up.
But what a soft lighting effect I got!!!

The buddy made a starlit sky over his hot tub. He even made his own zodiac sign and not just random ones.

Then the painter came =)

Thanks for the tips =) Have just ordered a 1.5 km 1mm roll =) Will surely get many gray hairs before everything is in place..... and the painter comes ; )

I have 1 package from Claes Ohlsson from before, completely worth the price but unfortunately, it has slightly short cables so I can't reach up to the slanted ceiling from the projector... However, I am considering connecting these to an LED lamp instead... I tried connecting the lamp to the mobile phone and it managed to light up the optics =) Fun to mix with =)

While I have you on the line... tips/advice/ideas for installing the starry sky...

Have you built your own "projectors"?
How did you lay the wiring in the wall if it was "unprotected"?
Did you heat the ends of the fibers to get a larger "star"?

All advice is welcome and will definitely be helpful the day I'm standing there with all the cables o dfjkfldskfl =)

have received my roll of optics now =) Tomorrow it's time to set up all the cabling.. =)

Bought 2 sets at Claes Ohlsson. They are the same as those sold in lamp stores, but they are 700 SEK each more expensive there.
I installed mine while we were putting up the ceiling panel, so I installed them one board at a time. I had drawn a sketch beforehand of how many would be in each board.
The idea of putting an LED lamp instead is smart. There are halogen LEDs that fit directly in the box.

Have started pulling the strips now, takes forever... Have pulled about 400 meters of tube now, haha, but connected them to a projector and it turned out really well...

Chose track panel for simplicity when mounting spots and the starry sky... Also, it looks really nice =)

I also drew the ceiling to scale, took my partner and then we sat down and marked out our star signs and other light points... Then I made markings on the ceiling and put tape pieces there which I removed as I pulled the strips forward... An endless project, haha =)

Ran the strips in 20mm flexible tubing along the lower part of the ceiling, which I cut in 1-meter lengths, to keep the optics collected and protected, and the meter length to be able to bend up at the right length... worked well, but VP tube might have been better...

Oh dear... I’ve just finished pulling 1.5 km of fiber optic cables now... been suffering from muscle inflammation after spending almost every evening feeding pipes... =P

Any good tips on how to tinker with the optics?

Heard you can use an iron to create a larger light point... Do you have more? How can you conceal the ceiling nicely so it doesn't look silly with all the drill holes/points?

Ceiling with small LED lights resembling stars, creating a starry sky effect indoors. Many small white holes in a dark surface resembling stars in the sky.

Forgot to round off :)

Nice but not so many bright spots?

When you say it like that, probably not all the wires are connected to the lamp on that card. :)
