Hello, I am in the process of setting up new interior walls in an old summer cottage where there are no specific center-to-center (CC) measurements. I have installed OSB boards and will now put up drywall.

My question is whether anyone has experience with attaching drywall to OSB boards, if it works well without having a stud underneath? Does the OSB board draw the screw down properly so the screw head disappears and does it work well?

/Nygge

yes, it's fine, you don't need to screw the gips into the frame.

Agree, just make sure the OSB is properly screwed into the studs, then you can screw the gypsum as you like into the OSB. Just make sure that the joints on the OSB and the gypsum don't end up in the same places.

Okay, sounds good. And the plaster adheres well to just OSB then?

Yep, have done exactly this, and after a year haven't noticed any cracks or anything like that!

What dimension of drywall screws do you use then?

30mm for plasterboard on osb, 40mm where I can screw into the studs. Sometimes it has been 40mm everywhere, but then there is a risk of puncturing the vapor barrier if one is directly behind the osb.

No vapor barrier...natural ventilation through and cross-draft through the wall is what matters =)

Sorry for hijacking the thread...

But does the same thing apply if you want to put gypsum on particleboard? I was actually planning to do that in the upcoming renovation...

Hi, no idea actually how it works on spånskiva, I am too unfamiliar with the material. But it worked great on OSB, so thanks to everyone who helped with answers on this.

It's the same technique on particle board as OSB, I actually think the screws hold better in particle board. In OSB, I've had screws that "slip," this hasn't happened in 12mm particle board.

Awesome sauce! Thanksd^_^b

Hi, I'm jumping into the thread with a follow-up question that should fit here.

How many screws should one use when attaching the drywall to the OSB? I've screwed every 20 cm in the underlying studs (cc 60) as well as in the drywall edges/countersinks. Is that enough?

Yes, it is. One row on each edge and one in the middle is sufficient.

Sorry if I'm asking a question without owning the thread, but it might be relevant for more people: There are two widths of drywall, about 90 and 120 cm. Do you need to screw in the middle even on a drywall that is 90 cm wide?
