Hello!
We are going to tear off our old facade, insulate, and install a new facade. We will also install new windows in line with the new facade, which will be about 10cm further out than the current facade. Due to long lead times on the windows, the builder wants to start with the facade renovation and install the windows when they arrive.
I wonder if it's okay to leave the old windows in place, install the new facade 10cm further out, and then install the new windows at a later stage.
Isn't it better to do everything at the same time, considering that the new facade will be further out?

Doesn't make a big difference on such a large job. However, the windows will wear out faster if you have them flush with the facade, and it is not recommended. Nevertheless, many people think that the aesthetics and the advantage of deep window sills are more important than a higher maintenance cost.

It's the window flashings that usually become a bit more troublesome to fit when the windows aren't in place beforehand. But otherwise, there shouldn't be any problems as long as you cover properly before the new windows are installed. I think you're doing the right thing by setting the windows flush with the facade :)

Thanks for your advice. They helped a lot!
The windows are flush with the facade today, and therefore we want the new ones to be as well. We don't want to change the house's original design too much.
