Hi! I just tore down a wall that had a built-in bookshelf. Behind it, I found the chimney and thought that maybe I could expose the bricks. I think it could look really cool! Can I just chip away the plaster stuck on it, or is there something I should consider? Is it possible to tidy up the "joints" between the bricks by applying some extra mortar there? Do you have any fun tips and ideas? :)

if the chimney is used for burning, it should preferably be plastered for safety's sake - no smoke and toxic carbon monoxide in the home ;)
