When installing OSB board and planning to have drywall on top, should there be an expansion joint between the boards or is the expansion joint only needed at the corners?

The OSB boards are 1197 wide for c/c 600, so a 3mm gap seems logical. ::)

A regular folding rule works well as a distance measure in this case. :)
 
They say one should have expansion joints. However, I have half a house full of OSB+gypsum without expansion joints and the walls aren't bulging in or out because of it.

If the boards are 1197 and you have 1200 between the studs, then the centering on the stud will likely drift if you place them edge to edge without a gap, it should soon become noticeable on slightly longer walls... :P
 
Especially when you always manage perfect centering ;)

cc59.5 is what applies - easier to scrape a little on a board here and there than to stretch it a little :)
However, this does NOT apply to ceiling drywall..

But at home, of course, it's cc60.0 all the way through...

Depends on which OSB is to be installed, but for OSB3:

- Expansion joint of at least 2 mm/m. For lengths >12 m, additional movement should be considered.
- Walls have the best strength when the panels are mounted with the long edges at a right angle to the support.
- Panel edges are mounted with support, at least 20 mm on the studs.
- The panels are installed with countersinking wood screws at 100 mm center distance, at least 9 mm from the edge.
- Screw length should be 2.5 times the thickness of the panel.

Should and should... but yes, it should be.

Sounds very tight with screws every 10 centimeters.

But then you wonder how a screwed-down board can move with the humidity!?!?!!? In that case, you would need to have wide holes so that the board can slide around the screw.

On bridges, one side usually rests on rollers so that it rolls a bit on that side when the concrete expands.
