Hello!

I have received documentation from my constructor that looks as follows.

A new glulam post is to be erected in place before the old exterior wall with an embedded old post is demolished. Is it possible to erect the new post in reality since it will be too long before it is in place... Is it possible to knock it into place, or is there any trick? Can it be made slightly too short and then insert spacers of flat iron or similar at the top between the beam the post is to support and the beam itself...

One more question... The constructor suggests that the old concrete slab and the new extension should be connected together by drilling into the old one and inserting dowels... Are the dowels in question reinforcing bars that are inserted into the drilled hole, or is there a special dowel?

In general, isn't the advice to let additional slabs be independent of the old ones? That's what I've done in a previous house extension, and it worked perfectly... Is it different in this case since the slabs collectively will support the glulam beam carrying the roof?
